The Corbett Alumni Association strives to reconnect our graduates through alumni events and to support the further development of our alma mater for a new generation of students.
In 2006,
it was great fun to work with classmates on a well-planned and
successful 50th reunion. Festivities began with a class
barbecue on Friday night at the home of Ron & Sandy Evans
where the class was given its 50th Anniversary
Yearbook after dinner. On Saturday, the reunion banquet, prepared by
Ericka Pace '95, was held in the CGS cafeteria and was
preceded by a tour of the campus led by Brian Evans '78. The
evening included music by a classical guitarist, Richard
Rios-Stevens '07, a welcome by Senior Class President, Jim
Yerion, and a report on the academic health of Corbett School
District #39 by Superintendent Bob Dunton. Roger Mackiness
'61 told us of the Corbett Education Foundation's scholarship
program and in return, the Class of 1956 presented him with a
full scholarship to award a graduate in 2007. After dessert and
refreshments, we were treated to a slide presentation, Fifty Years
in Review, by classmate Laura (Brenneke) Solinsky, while
listening to Hit Tunes of the Fifties. The 100 friends and
classmates who came to help us celebrate closed the evening by
singing the class song, Moments to Remember. Of the 100
classmates and guests in attendance, there were twelve classes
represented on the guest list. It was indeed a special memory.
On October
19, 2007, the Class of 1967 had a 40-year reunion with a dinner in
Gresham, followed by the Homecoming Game at the high school at 7 p.m.
Some of the senior highlights in 1967 include:
The
girl's GAA volleyball team won the league championship, competing
against mostly large schools, like those in Portland's PIL league.
The
football team was the undefeated league champion, losing only one
game to the eventual state champions.
The
wrestling team had two seniors place 1st and 2nd
at the district meet, winning the third place trophy.
The
basketball team was the undefeated league champion, losing only one
game to the eventual state champion. It placed third at the state
tournament.
The
track team won the district championship for the tenth year in a
row, ending the season with a 4th place finish at the
state meet.
Corbett
was honored to become the first small school (Class B) to have one
of its students, Glen Hiemstra, named the Oregon Scholar/Athlete
of the Year.
